Hey folks! I could use your thoughts on a situation with my boiler. Recently, a propane company came over for a routine maintenance cleaning—no issues on our end, just being proactive. The technician mentioned seeing some rust but didn't seem alarmed. We'd heard about rust from when we bought the house, so we're not sure if it's gotten worse. After the visit, I received a follow-up email from their service manager saying there's significant corrosion on the gas valve and other parts, advising that I should consider replacing the boiler soon. They warned that if the rust spreads, it could lead to a gas leak, which sounds serious. Here are a few things to note: they had seen rust five years ago during the purchase inspection (the tank was only six years old then) but didn't recommend a replacement at that time, now they're pushing hard for it. I've got pictures they sent showing the condition. Does it seem like their concerns are valid based on the photos, or could this just be a scare tactic to sell a new boiler? I'm planning to get another opinion but would love to hear from anyone with HVAC or propane experience, or anyone who's been in a similar situation. Thanks!

Honestly, it might be best to replace the gas valve and run it for now. They could be trying to make a sale! Always good to get a second opinion, though. Just keep an eye on it for any changes.
A little surface rust isn’t the end of the world! If you think it’s necessary, replace the valve and clean up the rust a bit. If it’s just surface level and the combustion chamber isn’t affected, you might be alright!
I’d suggest posting multiple angles of the whole boiler to get a better view. The components you showed look bad, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the entire unit is shot. Just be cautious and consider checking other forums for more advice.
