Does Tonic Water Really Help Plants or Not?

So I'm seeing mixed opinions online about tonic water. Some sources say it could be beneficial for plant growth, while others claim it actually hinders it. I have a horticulture degree, but I don't know everything, especially with all these trends and differing advice out there. It reminds me of when people used to shine leaves with all sorts of products—even mayonnaise! So, does anyone have insights on whether tonic water is good or bad for plants?

Wait, are we talking about tonic water—the fizzy drink with quinine? I can't imagine that would do much good for plants, honestly. Seems like it could just make the soil sticky! ?

For real! I'm not sure how they think that could help plants. It just sounds a bit odd.
