Does Using Grass Clippings for Mulch Attract Leather Jackets?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to mulch my garden with grass clippings this year, but a neighbor warned me that it might attract leather jackets. I don't have any leather jackets in my garden right now, so I'm curious if there's any truth to this. Has anyone experienced this issue?

I’ve mulched with grass clippings before and never noticed an increase in leather jackets. Honestly, they’re pretty common anyway, so I wouldn’t stress too much about it. Just keep an eye out for the good bugs, like daddy long legs, who help keep things balanced in the garden!

Totally agree! Besides, attracting birds like starlings and blackbirds can help control leather jackets naturally. They love to dig in the soil for pests without harming your plants.

Same here! I use grass clippings for mulching all over my garden and haven’t noticed any uptick in leather jackets. It’s an easy and free option to help with your plants!

Leather jackets can harm grass roots, but honestly, it’s not a big deal in the UK. I mulch with grass clippings regularly and haven't had any major issues, so I wouldn't worry about it too much!
