Hey everyone! I'm diving into woodworking because I want to build simple guitar cabinets with box joints and also restore old shellacked radio cabinets. I'm curious about what essential tools I'd need as a complete beginner. Right now, I own some wood chisels in sizes 10mm, 15mm, and 20mm, a sanding block, a couple of files, a handsaw from metalwork, and both a combination square and a try square. I'm considering getting a basic plane for under 50 Euros. Does this setup sound good for a newcomer? Is tackling a simple cabinet a suitable first project, and how should I go about it? Thanks!

Definitely look into getting used tools to save some cash! Personally, I really recommend electric or pneumatic sanders—they make sanding much easier, which is great since it's often the most tedious part. Building guitar cabs can be a really fun project. Just note how different designs and port placements can impact the sound! Oh, and if you're interested, some cool designs use printed fabric instead of the usual speaker cloth, which can add a unique touch.

Thanks! I'm wondering about the joints though. Should I try to tackle box joints first, or would it be simpler to just align the planks at 90° and use nails? Also, what's the best wood to use—plywood, solid pine, etc.?
