So I was chatting with a friend who mentioned her parents' dog named Hebe, pronounced as 'heebee.' I was totally sure it was 'heeb!' After a quick online search, I learned that I was wrong! It got me curious—how many of you have mispronounced plant names before? Please tell me I'm not the only one!

I'm still not sure how to pronounce clematis after all the corrections I've gotten! Decided it’s easier to say it in my head. But yeah, seems like there's just no right way to say it sometimes.

It’s funny how regional differences can mess things up. Everyone in my family pronounces it differently!

My grandparent was adamant about 'clem-a-tiss,' it’s a family debate at this point!

Clematis is the real puzzle for me—it's pronounced so many ways! I heard 'clem-er-tiss' and 'cleh-may-tiss.' My neighbor used to say 'cleh-my-tiss' and now I'm doubting everything!

GardenGuru -

Yeah, there seem to be so many variations. I’ve always said 'clem-ay-tis' but that could just be me!

HortCultivator -

Apparently both are correct, but it’s a bit of a mess since there's no universal pronunciation.

I was so thrilled when I found out that 'hebe' was pronounced differently than I thought! After removing a bunch of dead ones, I finally used the right term and felt like I accomplished something in gardening! Just today I was looking into Dahlia's dahlias too!

Aubrieta totally had me confused too! I thought it was 'aw-bree-et-ah' when it's actually 'aw-bree-she-ah.' Got to love the tricky spellings in the plant world!

For real! Totally thought the same thing! Turns out I was just reading it wrong.

My wife always says not to mock someone for mispronouncing a word! It's a sign they learned it through reading, not hearing. I totally get that, being a big reader myself once. It can be super embarrassing when someone calls you out for it instead of helping you out!

Exactly! I think we should encourage others to ask questions instead of just laughing it off.

I've been mispronouncing Cotoneaster as 'cotton-easter' for ages! Turns out that’s way off. I heard someone use the correct term once, and I was like, 'Wait, really?'

Isn’t it a shock? I thought I was going crazy with that one!

GardenGazer -

Same here! I still can't believe it!
