Has anyone ever installed an in-glass dog door in a sliding door? I'm thinking about getting one, but I want to hear from anyone who has experience with it or knows someone that does. Last year, I got a quote that was a bit pricey, but not outrageous. When I reached out to a local glass company for another quote, the technician mentioned he's seen some break (though I can't remember if he witnessed it personally or not). On the flip side, some friends of my parents have a similar dog door, and they say it's worked perfectly for them. Since we don't have kids to accidentally slam the sliding doors and our dogs are both under 15 lbs, I'm hoping we wouldn't cause any issues with it. I'm considering something like this: [https://enduraflap.com/products/in-the-glass?variant=39518500290639](https://enduraflap.com/products/in-the-glass?variant=39518500290639)

We're looking into a similar setup, but we're putting the dog door in the fixed non-sliding part of our 3-section window/door. Might be a different approach for you though depending on the layout of your space!
I think getting an insert for a slightly open door might be a safer option since it's less prone to breaking and usually more affordable too. Plus, it would let you retain the full functionality of your sliding doors without worrying about glass expenses.
Totally agree! I'm on the fence but the insert seems to be the most practical choice. Plus, it’s better than risking a shattered glass door, which could cost a few grand to replace!
Honestly, I'd rather cut a hole in the wall than mess with double pane glass. It seems too risky for something that should be a simple addition.

I wish I had that option, but sadly our stairs end right at the sliding doors, so the fixed parts aren't feasible for us.
