I recently received four 18-inch blueberry plants with their root balls wrapped in damp dirt. Since I'm in Michigan and we're past the frost danger, I want to get these in the ground, but my soil pH is at 6.5, and I wasn't prepared for this. I have some elemental sulfur, but I've heard it can take months to lower the pH to the ideal 4.5-5.5 range. What are some quick ways to lower the soil pH so I can plant these blueberries sooner?

One option is to plant your blueberries in pots with soil that has the right pH while you prepare a spot in the ground. That's what I did with my blueberries! I added some berry fertilizer when I planted them straight into the ground, and they did fine. It wasn’t the perfect scenario, but the plants adjusted well enough.
Great tip! I’ve started enriching the soil where they're going, but I wasn’t sure it would be ready soon enough. I think potting them with some peat might just do the trick!
