Feeling Overwhelmed with Houseplants and Bugs – Anyone Else?

I've been taking care of several houseplants for years, including a couple of sentimental spider plants and an aloe plant that I inherited from my father-in-law. Since moving in 2022, I've expanded my collection significantly, growing many of these plants from cuttings shared by friends. However, my joy turned to frustration last year when my plants got hit hard by thrips and gnats. Despite my best efforts to combat these pests, they just keep coming back. Recently, I noticed aphids on my baby's play gym, which made me decide to throw all my plants away. With a three-month-old baby and limited energy, I just can't keep up with them anymore. Besides, I have 35 packs of seeds for my garden, but I haven't even had the time to plant a single one due to the ongoing pest struggle. I'm venting because it feels so disheartening to give up. I'm curious if anyone knows how long it takes for the bug problem to decline now that I have no plants around. On the bright side, I have a few plants in my office that I grew over a year ago that survived this chaos, so my plant legacy isn't completely lost!

I completely understand where you're coming from. After having a baby, I gave away most of my plants, too. It just felt like too much to handle with a little one depending on me. Don’t feel bad about taking a break from your plants; your focus is rightly on your new baby! They’ll still be there when you have more free time later.

Exactly! Once your kid gets a bit older, you'll have more time to dive back into your hobbies. It’s perfectly okay to step away from the plant game for a while!
