Feeling Stuck with My Insurance Claim: Is This Normal?

I had a pipe burst back in May, which flooded four rooms (two bathrooms, a laundry room, and part of a bedroom). State Farm assigned two companies to handle the repairs: one for flooring and another for the rebuild. The flooring estimate of $7k got approved back in June, and I've been pushing to schedule installation. But the rebuild estimate of $24k wasn't touched for over two months despite repeated assurances from my adjuster. Suddenly, in August, they switched my adjuster and only offered $8.5k for the rebuild. My contractor and I contested this offer, and after some back and forth, the new adjuster sent a revised estimate that further cut coverage instead of fixing the original issues. Now, I'm left with around $12k for repairs that should cost $24k, and it's getting worse with winter coming and animals getting into my home through open walls and floors. Is this kind of back-and-forth with insurance normal? Should I be fighting harder?

I've been through a major claim too, and it ended up being over $250k. I'd strongly recommend hiring a good public adjuster. They can take on the insurance company for you and are typically worth the expense because they'll secure way more funds than you might get on your own. Just be careful—there are some bad ones out there. Ask your contractor for recommendations since they usually work with some good adjusters.

That sounds promising! I'm a bit hesitant since I’ve never used one before, but I agree it would be better to be informed than go in blind. I’ll need to research some options before making a decision.

That's pretty standard, unfortunately. My experience with insurance claims turned into a long battle where I had to fight for every dollar. They often try to lowball you to see if you'll just give up. Patience and persistence are key here! Keep pushing back because they know people might quit if it gets tough.
