I've got a situation with my toilet's float valve and I'm not exactly a plumbing expert. Despite raising the arm to its maximum, the shut-off valve isn't stopping the water, which is almost reaching the overflow edge. I've checked the flap, and it's sealed—no water's entering the bowl. I have another bathroom that's identical, and its water level is about an inch lower than the overflow. Am I right in thinking that my float valve might need replacing, or is there something else I can try?

First off, try flushing the toilet while raising the float arm upward until it feels tight. If the water keeps running, then you're likely right—a new float valve might be in order. But if it does shut off, then you might just be misadjusting the float level! Good luck!
Hey! Just a thought—make sure your water line isn’t too wide, as that could affect how the float assembly is positioned. But it sounds like you've checked that. If you’re managing to stop water flow only by pressing down on the valve, it seems like something needs replacing. You’re on the right track!
