Getting Into Woodworking at 50: Where Should I Begin?

I'm nearly 50 years old and completely new to woodworking. Having just moved to an acreage, I'd love to make some useful items but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. I grew up using the metric system, so I'm not very familiar with imperial measurements. Right now, I've got a drill, a circular saw, a miter saw, and a reciprocating saw, but I'm unsure where to start and if this hobby is even feasible for someone my age. Any advice would be appreciated!

You’re definitely not too old to pick this up! I started at 50 and built a few simple projects like a sitting bench and shelves. It's been such a fun and rewarding hobby. Just focus on safety and enjoy the process!

That's inspiring! What was your first project? I’m looking for ideas to get started.

A solid first step is to look around your home for things that need fixing or small furniture pieces you might be missing. Start simple, set achievable goals, and remember to measure twice before cutting. You’ll slowly build your skills over time!

Totally agree! It's all about starting small and manageable. Just dive in!
