Go Board vs. Kerdi: Why Is Kerdi More Popular?

I'm remodeling my bathroom and I'm about to start working on the shower. I've ruled out cement board because I'm doing this myself, and carrying heavy panels is a challenge for me. I was leaning towards Kerdi, but then I found out about Go Board. It looks much easier to install since you don't need special screws, tape, or thin-set, and it costs half as much! I'm curious why everyone seems to prefer Kerdi over Go Board. Is Kerdi really that much better? Is it all about the extra tape and hardware making it more waterproof? I've seen that Go Board offers a seam band and some corner protection now, but I've heard the sealant alone is usually enough. Am I missing something? It seems like Go Board might be the better choice, so why do so many people stick with Kerdi?

I had the same dilemma and decided on Go Board—great choice! Just a heads up, you'll want to stock up on sealant because it tends to run out quickly.

As a pro, I've used both systems countless times, and I always go with Go Board for shower walls and tub surrounds. The caulk can be a bit of a hassle, but it leads to thinner seams and smoother walls for better tiling. Schluter does have its place, but for most projects, Go Board is my go-to. Just be sure to get around double the caulk they recommend, and work quickly—wear gloves because it sets up fast!

Honestly, Kerdi is more of a trend than a necessity. Sure, it works well, but it's also pretty pricey for what you get.
