Got Any Tips for Making a Second Floor Laundry Flood-Proof?

I'm in the process of building a house and planning to have the laundry on the second floor. My main concern is how to make it as flood-resistant as possible. I've considered a few options: (1) maybe installing a drain under the washer, but the flat floor makes it uncertain if water would actually go into it; (2) putting the washer in an awkward pan with a water bug, but that might block the access panel; (3) since we're using tile flooring, we could run waterproofing a bit up the walls to mitigate minor water events. I'm also thinking about using metal hoses and a device that only opens the water valves when the washer is on. I'm looking for additional suggestions since I need a solid plan quickly and none of these solutions feel perfect.

I've got a second floor laundry setup too! My washer sits on a pan with a drain in the center, which has worked out okay. Just make sure to replace your hoses regularly. I had 'FloodChek' hoses that were great, but I can't find them anymore. I could use some recommendations for equally good hoses!

What type of washer do you have? Mine's a top load, and it moves a lot during the spin cycle, which cracked my pan after a while.
