I'm looking for creative tips to water my garden without a hosepipe, especially during hosepipe bans. I've heard about using watering cans and collecting rain or grey water, but I'm curious about any other methods or strategies people are using to efficiently water larger areas or spots that are hard to reach. Any advice would be much appreciated!

One of the best strategies is to use mulch. It really helps retain moisture in the soil and reduces evaporation. You can use old grass clippings, compost, or even stones to cover the surface. It keeps the ground cooler and allows water to penetrate deeper. Totally a lifesaver!
I've been using hazelnut shells too! They're great for mulching.
If you're struggling with a hosepipe ban, you can also make soil rings around your plants to keep water from running away. Just create a little bowl shape at the base, and when you pour water, it stays right where it’s needed instead of spilling away on the weeds. Plus, using water butts on downpipes to catch rainwater is a fantastic way to stock up when it does rain!
Good tip! I also try to put buckets out to catch drips when it rains. Every little bit helps!
I never thought about making rings! That sounds super helpful.
Consider drip irrigation! It's a very efficient way to water. I’ve set up a blue barrel on my allotment and I'm adding a tap and some piping. The slope helps with gravity too. Just keep in mind there might not be enough pressure, as I had to get a solar-powered pump to make it work effectively without evaporation wasting the water.
We tried a similar setup, but the pressure was a problem. That's why we went solar-powered with a battery to run our pump at night.

Same here! Strulch is amazing for keeping the moisture in, isn't it?
