I recently had some space in my garden and decided to grow honeydew melons since I love them! I've been searching online for guides and tips, but most resources focus on different types of melons or just the early stages of growth for honeydew. I'm curious if anyone here has experience with growing honeydew. Do you use a trellis for support? What kind of fertilizers work best for melons? I'm hoping to learn and get a good yield from my first plot!

I just listened to a podcast that had a ton of helpful info on growing melons. If you're starting from nursery plants, be cautious because melons don’t like having their roots disturbed. You might have better luck with direct sowing! Since you're in California, you've got a longer growing season, so don’t hesitate to experiment a bit!
Last year, I just planted a couple in my garden and they did really well with enough water and sunlight. If you go the trellis route, just know that it depends on the weight of the melons. I’ve used pantyhose under the melons to prevent them from rotting where they touch the ground. It’s all about trial and error, so go for it!
Honeydew melons love warmth and sun. Make sure they’re well-watered when they’re forming—once they’re bigger, it’s okay for the plants to dry out a bit. Also, support under each melon is crucial to avoid rot. You’ll know they’re ripe when they smell sweet and sound hollow when you thump them!
