I've been traveling for some builds and ended up with a jumble of tools stuffed into random plastic bins and bags. ? I'm looking to create something nicer for my tools for future trips. I've come across Paul Sellers' traveling joiner's toolbox and his tool chest, and I'm curious if anyone here has actually built one of these. I know the chest is larger and can hold more tools, but is it practical for travel? Any thoughts?

If you're considering alternatives, check out the Boarded Tool Chest from Schwarz's "Anarchist Design Book." It involves rebates, dadoes, and cut nails. Also, the Dutch Tool Chests by Megan Fitzpatrick are really interesting and have practical designs, but they might be a bit bulky for traveling.
I haven't built either, but watching Paul Sellers work is just so inspiring! The passion he has for woodworking really shines through. It's like he's the Bob Ross of the wood shop—his voice makes it so calming to watch!
Totally agree! His videos have a unique charm that just makes you want to pick up your tools and start building something.
We actually had to build something similar as apprentice joiners in college. While they look nice and can be a fun project, I found them not practical for traveling. The design often has you digging through layers to find the tool you need, which can be super frustrating.
Which one are you referring to? Both designs have drawers that I thought would help keep chisels and tools organized.

I've been looking into that, too! I'm leaning towards making something for home first, but I worry it might be too big to take on the road.
