I'm considering purchasing the DCF850 tomorrow, but I'm a bit concerned about the batteries sticking out too much, which might hinder my ability to drive screws or bits all the way in. Has anyone experienced this issue? Just to clarify, I don't have batteries larger than 5Ah.

I actually love my DCF850! It works best for lighter tasks rather than heavy-duty lag driving. If you plan to use it for just household repairs, a 1.7Ah battery is perfect and keeps the tool lightweight. If you need something for more intense work, consider getting a different model like the 860 or 845.
I've used the DCF850, and honestly, you'll be fine with it. While I've heard mixed reviews about it, I think it handles well overall. Just check your bit length if you're worried about clearance.

Good to know! I'm mainly into DIY projects and not heavy lag driving. Sounds like the DCF850 could be a solid fit for me!
