Has Anyone Successfully Used a Trench or Barrier to Keep Bamboo At Bay?

I'm really curious if anyone has tried using a trench or rhizome barrier to stop bamboo from spreading into their yard. My neighbors have some, and I'm looking for ways to prevent it from overrunning my garden. If you've implemented either method, how effective has it been for you? Thanks in advance!

I know someone who used a ditch witch to dig a trench and then lined it with this wavy fiberglass roofing material. It was buried a few feet down and worked pretty well overall. Some bits did come through, but it kept most of the bamboo contained. Not super expensive either!

Just a heads up, bamboo is tricky! Even with barriers, they tend to send runners in spring. You should definitely check the edge of their barrier regularly. If it’s clumping bamboo, it’s manageable, but it helps to trim back anything that comes onto your property yearly—think of it like maintaining a shared hedgerow!

I totally get where you're coming from! My neighbor also planted bamboo and it's already spreading like crazy. I'm seriously considering sneaking in and spraying some Roundup to deal with it. ? But seriously, I'm eager to hear about what others have done too!

I'm actually having a trench dug out very soon because of this issue! The bamboo from my neighbor has been crawling into my yard and it’s a real pain to manage. I'm using the DeepRoot UB 24-2 Tree Root Barrier, which I found to be easier to handle than the thick plastic rolls at garden stores. I need about 40 feet of it—wish me luck!
