I'm considering making my own poster frames since I've got all the tools needed for the frame itself, but I'm unsure if it's financially worth it. Buying frames locally is quite expensive when you factor in mat board, backer board, and glass, so I'm curious if anyone here has attempted this or has tips on whether it saves money in the long run.

In terms of cost, if you're only making standard sizes, it might be cheaper to buy ready-made frames. But if you're dealing with odd sizes or want a higher quality frame, making it yourself can be quite rewarding. I did a quick price comparison, and while starting can be pricey with tools, subsequent frames are definitely cheaper to make yourself!
I absolutely enjoy making my own frames! I built a sled for my table saw that helps me measure quickly and accurately. If you want to make your own mats, I recommend getting a mat cutter, which can save you money in the long run. I recently just finished a couple of frames over the weekend, and it feels great to create something myself!
Is that the cool setup from Ragnar Volarus?
I've made loads of frames over the years and even invested in a guillotine cutter, which really speeds things up! You can create custom sizes and styles, so that's a huge plus. Just being set up to make frames means you could easily find people interested in custom pieces once they see your work. It's worth trying out, especially if you enjoy hands-on projects!
I'm just dipping my toes into this, too! I have some magazine covers I want to frame using acrylic, but I'm a bit nervous about messing it up. Hoping to get good tips to avoid disaster!

That's true! Custom sizing can add up fast in stores, but once you have the tools, each frame gets easier.
