Hi everyone! I recently bought an old house and I'm really worried about the cast iron pipes beneath it. We're having drainage problems where the washer backs up into the tub because the main line just can't handle the water flow. I've gotten quotes ranging from $55,000 for repiping everything to $12,000 for pipelining. I'm curious: is pipelining a dependable option to preserve my original terrazzo flooring? Any experiences or advice?

Have you thought about pipe bursting instead? It involves a bit of digging—like a 24x16 hole—but it completely replaces the old line right in the same spot. They use a special cutter and a hydraulic winch to break up the old pipe while pulling a new one in. Might be worth looking into!

I haven’t heard of pipe bursting either. Is that something many plumbers do? I’m in the Orlando area.
