Has Anyone Tried the New M12 Subcompact Impact and Drill?

I noticed that the new M12 subcompact impact and drill are now available for online order at Home Depot. I'm really curious if anyone has had the chance to use these tools yet and what your thoughts are on their performance. Are they worth the hype or just another gimmick?

I just got my set in today! I used the impact to build a flat pack shoe rack, and I didn't strip any screws, so it seems pretty solid. It really is small and feels well-made, although I still need to try the drill out to see how it stacks up.

I'm really looking to replace my Surge with this subcompact, but I'm just waiting for a good sale. If I can find the impact for around $70 or less as a tool-only option, it’ll be a no-brainer for me.

Are you looking to sell your Surge? I had one too, but mine disappeared mysteriously!

I checked out a video review and honestly, it seems pretty underwhelming. It’s just slightly smaller than the Gen 3 impact, but it’s also a lot weaker. If you already have the Gen 3 impact, there's really no reason to upgrade. It doesn't fit in any more places than the older version either. However, if you're new to the M12 line and only need something for small fasteners, it might be worth considering, especially if you can snag it for less than the Gen 3 price.

I get what you're saying. The price point is a bit of a turn-off since it's so close to the Fuel set. Hopefully, they plan to phase out the brushed versions and sell this subcompact as an entry-level option. When it drops to a more reasonable sale price, I think it could be a better buy. In that video, it actually performed reasonably well, even if it didn't nail everything perfectly.
