I'm curious if anyone here has experience using a 6" carbide hole saw specifically for cutting wood. I'm not sure if it's the best choice for this material, so any insights would be great!

I haven't used that specific size, but carbide hole saws are generally fantastic. They can cut through wood like butter, so if that's what you have on hand, I say go for it! Sometimes overkill is the way to go for a cleaner cut.
I've got a few carbide hole saws in different sizes, and they really do cut through wood way more effectively than standard ones. If you need to make that hole, it should handle it without any issues!
If you're considering using a carbide hole saw, just think about the wood type and how deep the cut will be. I'd recommend using a jigsaw or router with a circle cutting jig as a first step. It'll give you more control, especially for deeper cuts.
