I'm a contractor working in southwest PA, and with summer in full swing, I've been focusing on metal roofs and pole barns. I've been using a Dewalt 840 impact driver that's been solid for over two years, but lately, I've been seeing some good deals on the Milwaukee M12 impact driver. I'm curious if anyone here has used it for installing metal roofing—how does it perform for that purpose?

I used a M12 Surge before and honestly, I couldn't get into the feel of it. It felt weaker than a traditional impact, and I missed that feedback you usually get with impacts—you know, the 'ugga duggas.' After one project assembling a metal shed with loads of fasteners, I switched back to a conventional impact and I feel much better using it.
I've used the M12 for putting panels on metal roofs, and the self-tap mode worked pretty well. That being said, I'm also curious if the M18 drywall driver might handle the number of screws better. Just like with drywall, you’ve got to watch out for overdriving the screws.
