Hey everyone! I'm planning to build a custom packout dolly that's more affordable and collapsible than the ones currently on the market. The options I've looked at are priced around $100, which is a bit steep. I'm curious if anyone has used the packout mounting plate for loads exceeding its recommended 100lb limit? I need it mainly to move around a stack of tools totaling about 150lbs in my shop/garage, but I won't be taking it over rough terrain or securing loads with it. I don't really need the large box that comes with it, and I find the plate with four wheels way overpriced. Plus, I imagine having the four-wheel version would be a bit of a hassle navigating around air hoses and clutter. I'm aiming to construct something nice for about 150 CAD, which I can easily assemble and disassemble, instead of shelling out $300 for the Milwaukee dolly that lacks a collapsible handle.

It really depends on what you attach that mounting plate to and the type of casters you choose. I don't see why your plan wouldn't work. As long as you make a sturdy base, it should handle your 150lbs just fine!
Just so you know, the weight rating for the packout mounting plate is based on its use mounted on a wall, with items hanging off of it. You can't directly use that for a setup where the plate is lying flat. Just keep that in mind when planning your build!
They actually have both vertical and horizontal ratings. The vertical is 50lbs and the horizontal is 100lbs according to the Home Depot page. I'm pretty sure that's an accurate quote, but it’s worth checking.
If you're looking for cheaper alternatives, you might want to check out Amazon and Etsy. They have some options like the Tool Box Dolly that could work for you! Here’s a link I found: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CXSYCRC5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I’m thinking of using a regular collapsible moving dolly and welding a square tubing brace that fits the packout. That way, I get the quality of pneumatic wheels without paying for the Milwaukee branding.
