Health Department Came By—What Should I Do About This Dye Test?

Recently, the health department showed up at my house after receiving an anonymous complaint about sewage in the ditch by the road. They ran a dye test despite agreeing that there didn't seem to be any issue, and now I've found bright green dye in the ditch. My septic tank is about 150 feet from the road, with my property lying in between. I've checked everything, including the basement, sump pump, and leach field, and all seems normal. The land is flat, so there's no reason for any sewage to flow downhill. What could be going on here? I'm planning to find and fix the problem, but am I at risk of getting fined or kicked out of my home? I've only been a homeowner for about five years and this is my first experience with something like this.

First off, make sure that the person from the health department is legit! Verify their credentials and check the number for the department directly to confirm it's not a scam. Some scammers pose as inspectors and can cause a lot of trouble.

Good point! I would definitely check their ID and call the department to ensure that they're the real deal.
