Hey woodworking enthusiasts! I've got a bit of a situation on my hands. I maintain my wooden parquet floor with a synthetic oil that gives it a matte finish, and I've been doing this every year. However, this year I mistakenly used a shiny oil, and now my floor looks overly glossy and has lost its beautiful natural look. I'm looking for advice on how to restore it to its former glory. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

A better alternative might be to buff it with mineral spirits instead of scotch pads or steel wool. This should help without causing any damage to the wood, just be sure to test it in a small area first to see how it reacts.
One way to handle the shine is to just wait it out—over time, it should naturally lose some of that sheen. If you're feeling proactive, you can also buff it down with some fine steel wool or a scotch-brite pad, just check what's recommended for your floor type.

Can I use fine sandpaper to eliminate it? Also, if I wait for the shine to go down, can I apply matte oil next year?
