Help Choosing the Right Flooring: Glue Down vs Click Lock

I've been advised by a flooring store rep to go for glue down luxury vinyl plank (specifically Karndean Art Select Sabrina Cherry). However, my contractor stepdad warned me that this type tends to peel up after a couple of years. We need to make a decision by August 8th due to an upcoming price hike from tariffs, so I'd love some input on two specific locations. First, we want to install it in the second floor bedrooms and hallway, but the house was built with 80s particle board, which is similar to MDF, making it impossible to nail in. Second, for the basement rec room, we previously attempted click lock flooring, but it was destroyed by teens using rolling office chairs. We also have occasional water issues down there (about 2-3 times over the last ten years), though we've installed a sump pump. We're leaning towards the professionally installed glue down flooring, but after hearing my stepdad's concerns, I'm unsure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, I’d say listen to your stepdad on the glue down option. If it peels or doesn’t hold up, you’ll regret not following his advice! Plus, considering the second floor's particle board, glue downs can be tricky. Have you checked if plank flooring is an option? That might give you the durability you need without the installation risks.

That's a good point! I did use LVT interchangeably with planks. I’ll definitely reconsider it. Thanks for the input!
