Help! Did I Just Touch Poison Ivy?

Asked By StrawberryDreamer42 On

I was weeding my strawberry patch and accidentally grabbed what I believe is poison ivy. I didn't handle anything else afterward, but I rushed inside and thoroughly washed my hands with Dawn dish soap twice. How bad is it going to be for me? I realized my mistake as soon as I touched it, but my reaction was a bit slow. Any advice?

Make sure to wash your hands a few more times, especially between your fingers. Poison ivy's oil is really sticky and can get into places you wouldn’t expect, like the back of your arm! And definitely wash your clothes afterward to avoid any lingering oil.

Good call! I’m just worried because there’s a wasp in my bathroom and I can’t shower yet. But I just touched it with my right hand, so fingers crossed it stays localized!

It really depends on your sensitivity to poison ivy. Some people can touch it without any reaction, while others can break out in a rash just by being close to it. Since you washed the oil off pretty quickly, you might only get a mild rash, but it could take a few hours to show up if anything does.

Yeah, I’ve had a similar experience, and after washing it off promptly, I just got a small rash. Just keep an eye out for any itching or redness!
