Help! How Can I Remove a Stuck and Rusty Vacuum Break?

I have a vacuum break on my hose bib that's leaking badly and I need to replace it. The problem is, I can't figure out how to get it off! There's supposed to be a set screw, but it's rusted solid, and I can't find a way to remove it because it just looks flat. I dealt with a similar situation at my previous house, and I had to use a Dremel and a cut-off wheel to cut it off, which was a messy process. I'm hoping to find a better method this time. Any ideas or suggestions?

I recommend hiring someone who has experience. I did that once and they used a Dremel with a metal cutter, so it might be your best bet. Not sure if there’s an easier way, but it worked for me!

I thought using a Dremel was a dumb idea at first too! Glad to hear it’s not just me!

I’ve dealt with something similar, and while a Dremel works, just be cautious. You don’t want to damage the threads on the spigot or you could have bigger issues later.

That rusted part is likely a set screw. You might need to apply some penetrating oil to loosen it up, but watch out—it can be tricky!

Yeah, I figured that’s what it probably was, but there's no visible way to get it out.
