Help! I Accidentally Watered My Plants with Rubbing Alcohol

Asked By SunnyDaze789 On

I accidentally watered my plants using a diluted solution from a rubbing alcohol bottle. I usually use an empty 76% rubbing alcohol bottle to water them, but after refilling it with an alcohol mix, I mistakenly used it on four of my balcony plants. Now, the plants are leaking, and I can still smell alcohol even after adding a lot of water. Should I keep adding water to dilute it further or will that harm my plants? I'm really worried about their health and need advice!

Your plants are likely going to be okay! Alcohol evaporates quickly, so it shouldn't leave much behind, especially after you’ve watered them. Keep an eye on them, though!

You should definitely keep flushing the soil with water for a few minutes to help remove any alcohol. Just let the water run through until it flows out of the drainage holes. It's a little tricky, but it’s a great way to wash out those chemicals!

How will I know when it’s safe? I’ve noticed one plant getting clogged, and I’m afraid it’ll drown if I keep adding water.

Honestly, if it's a big concern, just buy some new potting soil and repot the plants. That way, you can be sure to get rid of any alcohol residue without risking your plants' health.

Is it still okay to repot them after a bit of time? Some of my plants are herbs like mint. Can they survive repotting?
