Help! I Broke My Shower Pipe While Trying to Remove It

I was trying to loosen a stuck shower arm with a nipple extractor, but instead of removing the attachment, I accidentally snapped off the pipe that's attached to the wall. Now there's a hole in the wall that's about the size of 1.5 ping pong balls. What's the best way to fix this?

Gotta love old plumbing! Just a heads up, if you're cutting through the wall, make sure to check for any wires or pipes in the area. You definitely want to avoid doing any more damage while you're at it!

Good call! I'll keep an eye out for that before I start cutting.

Be careful with those nipple extractors! It sounds like the old pipe was pretty rusty and stuck. To fix this, you might need to access the area from behind the wall. If you have a crawlspace, that could be a good way to get in there and make repairs.

Yeah, cutting a hole from the backside is a solid approach. Once you’re in, you can replace the broken pipe and properly secure everything.
