Help Identifying My Mysterious Succulent

Hey everyone! I'm trying to figure out which succulent I have, but I'm at a complete loss without a photo. Here's what I can describe: it has a single stem that grows clusters of bulbs or leaves. The newest growths are at the end of the stem, while the older clusters closer to the base are starting to decompose. There's a noticeable separation between each bulb, somewhat reminiscent of a string of pearls, but it's definitely not that. The clusters look a bit like Crassula, since each leaf is thick and fleshy. Any ideas on what this plant could be?

Could it be something like Portulacaria? Those have similar bulb patterns. Here's a link to one that looks pretty close: [Variegated Elephant Food](https://www.budgetplants.com/369-product_slider/variegated-elephant-food-portulacaria-afra-variegata-.jpg)

From your description, you could be looking at a few different types of succulents! It seems like it might have etiolated growth since you mentioned the separation between leaves. Maybe check out some rosette succulents, as they can have that bulb pattern you're talking about. I found a few images that might help narrow it down. Did you check the Ice Plant as well? Those can resemble what you're describing!

Thanks for the suggestions! I did look at Ice Plants, and while they have a similar structure, I'm not entirely convinced yet. I'll dive deeper into the rosettes you mentioned!

You're right that this could be a tough one! Lots of succulents share similar traits, and without a picture, it's hard to pin it down. Perhaps try looking at some etiolated varieties; that might help you find a match.
