Help! Kilz Original Accidentally Went Through the Dishwasher

Asked By CuriousSquirrel99 On

I need some advice! I accidentally ran a plastic bowl with some mostly dry Kilz Original through my dishwasher, and now I've got flecks of it on several dishes, including plastic, wood, and silverware. I'm really concerned because I know that stuff is toxic. How should I go about cleaning everything up safely? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, I’d suggest getting rid of any wood items and maybe some plastics since they can retain chemicals. For everything else, soak the dishes in hot water and try to scrub off any residues. As for the dishwasher, run it a few times empty with just water to flush it out.

First off, stop using any dishes or utensils that might have Kilz on them; it’s toxic! Toss anything that can’t be fully cleaned, especially textured wood and plastic pieces. For metal, wash them thoroughly with hot, soapy water and rinse well. Also, run the empty dishwasher through a cleaning cycle with bleach or a cleaner designed for dishwashers to remove any residue inside. And definitely don’t try to use that plastic bowl again!
