Hey everyone! I'm trying to decide between the Toughsystem music radio and the TStak connect radio, and I'm feeling a bit stuck. I don't have any existing TStak or Toughsystem tool storage to influence my choice. I primarily use 18v batteries (I'm based in Australia), although I do own a few FlexVolt batteries for my powerhead. It would be nice to use the FlexVolt batteries with the TStak, but it's not a dealbreaker. I've heard that the TStak sounds better at lower volumes, while the Toughsystem really shines when turned up loud. One more thing I've noticed is that the TStak app isn't available on the Google Play Store in Australia. I've heard the app is essential for pairing the radio with your phone and for setting up the stations initially. Is this true? I'd appreciate any other thoughts on the pros and cons of these radios. I’ve been using the DCR010, and it’s fantastic! It may not have all the fancy features, but it’s lightweight, affordable, and super portable. Sound quality is important, though—so keep that in mind if that’s your top priority!
I haven’t used the TStak, but I can share my experience with the Toughsystem. It’s definitely loud with strong bass, which might give you the sound quality you’re looking for. Just a heads up though: the aerial could be better for low-signal areas, and it tends to distort when left in direct sunlight. I’ve had mine for about 9 years, but the battery charging has stopped working now. The long press on the power button is also a pain! I'm still waiting for an upgraded version, but no news yet.
If you're open to alternatives, I've had great luck with Bose radios at my job sites. They’re pretty durable against dust and water, plus they deliver decent sound without having side outlets, so it's an option worth considering.
I checked out the non-adaptor radios too; they seem more budget-friendly. But yeah, sound quality can be hit or miss. It’s tough not to have a clear winner in that department.
