Hey everyone! I'm looking to switch from a propane-fed range to an electric one because I'm not too keen on using gas in my kitchen. Here's the plan I've come up with so far:
1. Check if the outlet can support electric.
2. Unplug the gas stove.
3. Turn off the gas line for the stove.
4. Cap the gas line.
5. Install the electric stove.
6. (This is where I start getting confused.)
Right now, we only have a propane range (and an underground 80-gallon tank) while everything else in the house runs on electricity. I'd really like to either make that tank inert or remove it if that's not a big hassle. Thanks for any tips you can share!

Switching to electric can be a bit pricey! The cost of the breaker and wiring adds up quickly. The electrician fees can be steep too, so make sure to factor that into your budget.
One thing to note is that electric ranges usually need 240V power. If there wasn’t an electric stove there before, you might only have a 120V line—and that won’t cut it. So you’ll likely need an electrician to run a new circuit. And get ready for some significant expenses if the kitchen is far from your panel.
Be careful with anything gas-related. It’s usually best left to a pro who knows what they're doing. You might want to hire someone certified just to be safe.
Yeah, if you're not super comfortable, let a professional take care of it. Safety first!
First, make sure you shut off the gas at the tank or meter if it's natural gas. You can then follow your steps. Just know that if you have a shutoff valve at the stove, capping it might not even be necessary. Just tape it closed once you turn it off!

Totally agree! Induction cooktops are a great option if you go electric. They cook just as well as gas, with some added benefits.
