Help! Millipedes are munching on my squash – Any advice?

I've noticed that my crookneck squash plants, which are just starting to ripen, were found half-eaten this morning! I discovered about ten millipedes hanging out inside one of the squashes, and I'm pretty sure they're involved in this. I'm a bit lost since this is my first time growing squash. Does anyone have tips on how to deal with this situation?

It sounds like there might be more going on here than just millipedes munching away. Were your squash plants sitting on the ground or supported by a trellis? Sometimes larger critters like chipmunks can do the heavy chewing, and the millipedes just come in to clean up what's left. If you think there are other animals getting in, you might want to check for signs of them first!

I think you might be onto something! I had a closer look, and there are definitely tooth marks on my squash. Plus, I’ve been seeing some chipmunks around!
