So, I recently had my porcelain soap dish fall off the wall, and I found mold behind it. I got it tested, and the results said it was some sort of fungal growth, classified as 'hyphae', but they couldn't identify the genus. It's a bit concerning since I had a mold remediation company come by, and they quoted me $1200 to fix it. I'm feeling a little lost on what my best course of action is. Should I just clean the area myself and reattach the soap dish for now?

I totally get your concern! If you can't deal with the wall behind it right now, maybe just clean that area yourself and stick the soap dish back for the time being. It might be a good idea to check the rest of the wall later, especially since it's in the shower area. Just make sure to keep an eye on it!
Honestly, a mixture of 1 part bleach to 3 parts water should do the trick. Just spray it on, let it sit for about 10 minutes, and give it a good scrub. If bleach isn't your thing, you could also use borax. But really, unless you have some severe mold allergies diagnosed, it's usually not a huge deal. Mold is everywhere; you just happened to find this one!
That's kind of what I thought too. I've never noticed any sensitivity to mold before.
Yeah, it's near the shower but lower down towards the tub, so I'm a bit worried about what's hidden behind the wall.
