Hey everyone, I thought I was actually making progress in my battle against these pesky little black ants (sugar ants, I think). I sprayed the baseboards, under the sink, and behind the outlets, and for a few days, they seemed to disappear. But now they're back, and I think there are even more of them than before! They've invaded the bathroom and kitchen, and I've even seen them crawling out of the outlets again. I read that using some ant sprays might cause the colony to 'bud,' meaning they split up when they sense danger, which could be what's happening here. I've done my best with DIY solutions, but I'm realizing I might need to go deeper than just surface fixes. Killing the queen or disrupting their trail networks could be necessary to truly solve the problem. Has anyone else experienced a rebound like this? What methods or products have you found that actually work to eliminate an ant infestation? Are there any bait setups or hacks that helped you out? I'm also curious if preparing to call a professional exterminator is the way to go if there's no effective DIY option.

Forget about sprays; they really don’t work in the long run. Instead, I highly recommend getting some Terro liquid ant bait. Just place it wherever you see those little guys. Wait it out for a week, and they should be gone for good. I had a similar issue, and after just two days of using Terro, they were gone and I didn’t even have to clean up any dead ants! The workers carried them all away like little funeral squads.
I went on a hunt for the strongest stuff after several tries with others, and I found that Bayer Maxforce Quantum Ant Bait works wonders if you want something even more effective than Terro!
You’re definitely on the right track regarding ant bait. It’s all about killing the queen and not just the foragers. Sprays just stimulate the colony to find new places. I suggest a combination of ant bait and diatomaceous earth as a barrier. Place the bait where they're active and dust the entry points with DE – it works like a charm! Also, don’t kill the foragers immediately; let them take the poison back to the nest.
Yes! DE worked nicely for me in the past. Just be careful not to inhale it while applying!
I found that thorough sealing of all gaps in the house combined with bait traps really helped keep the ants out long term. Once you tackle those entry points, it gets easier!
In my experience, just putting out some bait will make them go wild at first as they feast, but that’s a good sign! It means they’re taking it back home to the queen, who’s going to end up taking the hit. I used Advion Gel after a bad infestation, and it cleared them out pretty effectively. Just stick to bait and don’t fall for the quick-kill sprays!
Right? The key is patience. Let them take the bait and don’t panic when they first come out in droves!
I've had the same luck with Advion! It’s worth the investment; I had major issues before, but it got under control fast.

Totally agree! I tried Terro and had visible results in less than 3 days. It’s kind of fascinating how they clean up after themselves too! Best part is, I hadn’t seen any more after that.
