I'm working on making my own backsaw using a kit I got from Glancy's Alchemy. I followed a YouTube method for assembly, but I'm running into issues. The brass back seems to get squished and prevents the steel blade from moving forward. I tried starting from the other end and pried open the brass back with a flat screwdriver, but it still gets stuck in the middle. Is there any way to fix this? Also, I reached out to Glancy, and he suggested chamfering the top side of the blade, which worked immediately!

Try using a triangle file to create a small chamfer along the slit where the blade goes in. That should help it fit better!
I put together a video on how to install the blade that might help you out. You can check it out here: https://youtu.be/ihgQwJe0OyU?si=9vyjGpbDckkcC8kc. If you still have issues, feel free to reach out! I usually respond within a few hours unless my email goes to spam.
If you're having trouble, I recommend calling Glancy directly. He’s probably got some great tips for you! Their number is 765-661-9237.
