I recently tried planting some bare root poppies for the first time, following the instructions to soak them for 1-2 hours before planting. After planting, I ensured that the foliage stayed above the soil and watered them thoroughly. However, it's now been two days, and all the foliage has dried up and died. Is this normal, and is there anything I can do to save them? The soil feels moist, but I'm worried I might have overwatered them.

It’s possible that the existing leaves died off because they weren't used to the colder weather outside. Just keep doing what you’re doing for now and see if any new leaves pop up soon!
It’s pretty common for poppies to struggle after being transplanted. They can be quite sensitive to the process. You might be lucky if they come back, but don’t be surprised if they don’t. Keep your fingers crossed!

Should I keep the soil moist or let it dry out a little? I read that bare roots need to stay damp, but I've also seen that poppies prefer well-drained, drier soil.
