Help! My Basement Flooded After Framing Walls – What Went Wrong?

Asked By FramingFiasco94 On

I recently framed some walls against my basement's concrete foundation using tapcons, and after our first rainstorm, I discovered water has started to leak in. I'm not sure where the water is coming from or how to identify the source. Did I make a mistake by using tapcons, and is there a way to fix this?

It's possible the tapcons aren't the issue. If they didn't cause a crack or you didn’t go all the way through the foundation, the water might have been there all along and just became noticeable now. It's worth inspecting the exterior for any cracks or drainage issues.

How long were your tapcons? I've heard that if they're too short, they might not be securing anything well enough. Just a thought!

They were 3 inches and I used them with a ramset gun to go through treated 2x4s.
