Help! My Box Shrubs Are Overrun by Caterpillars!

Asked By GardenGnome42 On

I've got a major problem—my common box shrubs are seriously infested with caterpillars, and they're causing some serious damage fast. As someone who loves all creatures and follows a vegan lifestyle, I'm really torn about what to do next. Is there any way I can save my shrubs, or am I doomed to lose them to these hundreds of little critters?

There are a few methods you could try to deal with the infestation and save your box shrubs, but fair warning, some of them aren't vegan. If that's a concern for you, you might want to look into more natural methods or try barriers to deter the caterpillars without harming them. It’s tough, I know!

I'd love to hear more! What non-vegan methods are they?

On the bright side, you might just be helping the local butterfly population thrive! But I get your concern—it’s pretty disheartening to see your plants getting devoured. You might want to check if they’re box moth caterpillars. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can really do to save your box if that’s the case.

Yeah, unfortunately, those caterpillars usually turn into moths, not the butterflies we'd like to see!
