Hey everyone, I'm new here and I hope this is the right place to ask about some home improvement issues. I've been experiencing a strange noise coming from my ceiling fan in my room. It's like a weird drop noise from inside the fan, almost reminiscent of a heavy marble being dropped onto tiles. Along with that, the fan makes this increasing loud engine-like sound for about 5-10 minutes before it goes back to being silent. It's super annoying because it's waking me up 4-5 times a night, and I'm a light sleeper! These fans are about 7-8 years old but were in good shape before I started using them again a few months ago. We're considering replacing them, but I'd really like to know what might be causing this odd noise. Any ideas or suggestions?

I had a fan that made a weird noise, and it turned out one of the glass globes was loose. I suggest getting a ladder and checking all the parts while the noise is happening. See if anything feels loose, including the fan itself, when it's off. Might just be a simple fix!
It sounds like your fan's bearings might be going bad. I've had a similar issue where my fan made a clicking noise like marbles bumping together. It eventually got worse and I had to replace the fan altogether. So, it could definitely be worth checking out!
That makes sense—sounds like I'm going to need to replace mine too since it’s pretty old.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely give that a try the next time it happens—if I'm not in bed, that is!
