Hey everyone! I'm having trouble with a recessed light housing in our ceiling. It seems like the drywall is unlevel on one side, which is causing issues as my wife tries to install a new aftermarket light. No matter how we position the mounting bracket, it creates a gap on one side due to the unevenness of the drywall. We've considered using a spacer to level it out, but we'd rather have everything flush around the goof ring instead. It's puzzling because we can get the bracket flush to the drywall on both ends, yet the gap appears once we install the new light. Any advice would be great!

You might also want to check if the recessed housing is properly installed or if it's possibly warped. If it’s set in the ceiling in a crooked way, it can create issues with anything you install later on. If you can, take a look at the housing from above to see if it needs adjustment.
It sounds like you might be dealing with an uneven ceiling, which can definitely throw off installations like this. One approach is to use shims around the goof ring to help balance it out. This way, you can push it up to the drywall and minimize the gaps. Also, sometimes, trimming the goof ring can help it fit better if you're getting a small gap when it’s secured. Good luck!
Yeah, shimming is usually the best bet for these situations. Just make sure you secure everything snugly once it’s adjusted.

Definitely! Sometimes just adjusting the housing can make a huge difference. Get up there and see if anything looks off.
