I recently had a small master shower rebuilt by a contractor. Initially, he did great work, but things went south with the grout. After approving a small patch of it, he returned while we were away and now the majority of the shower has light brown grout instead of the white we wanted—it's seriously uneven and looks dirty overall. To make matters worse, he's ghosted us even though we still owe him money. I'm desperate for advice—can I bleach the grout to fix the color, or should I be prepared to pay for a complete re-grouting?

There are tools specifically for removing grout, like a grout saw or even a powered tool. It's often not too difficult to take out the old grout. Just put some effort into it, and once that's done, you can regrout with the color you're aiming for. Here’s a good one, just make sure to wear gloves!
First off, definitely don’t pay him any more until he fixes this on his own dime! As for fixing the grout, I'd suggest looking up ways to lighten existing grout. Depending on the type, you might be able to brighten it up a bit without too much hassle. Just remember, don’t hand over any cash until it's done right!
