My daughter just moved into a new apartment, and I tried to replace her shower head with a standard size one that she could easily hold. However, the pipe seems to be slightly smaller than 1/2 inch, so when she tries to pull the handheld shower head off, it completely comes off instead. I found an adapter that has a 1/2 inch on one side and 3/8 inch on the other, but the 3/8 side is just a bit too small. Is there a way to properly attach this shower head for her? Any help would be appreciated!

It might be worth checking if her apartment has a clawfoot tub with a shower conversion kit. I lived in a place like that where the shower pipe was a weird size, and we couldn't find any adapter that fit, even after asking at hardware stores. Just something to consider! But if it’s a regular tub, then definitely keep reading for other suggestions.
Make sure you measure the outside diameter of the pipe first. It could be metric, which would explain the fitting issues. Also, if the shower head is plastic where it connects, be careful not to overtighten it, or you might crack it. All-metal shower heads tend to work better!
Glad to hear the advice was helpful! Remember, getting the right measurement is crucial. Once you have that, it should be easier to find the right adapter. Don't hesitate to ask for help at a plumbing store; they might have more specific recommendations based on your measurements.
