Help! My Doorbell Won’t Stop Ringing After Replacing the Chime

So, I accidentally burnt out my doorbell chime by leaning a Halloween decoration on it for too long. Now, I'm trying to replace it with a traditional wired chime, but things have gone haywire. When I took out the old chime, I found four wires coming out of the wall. After connecting the new chime, it just wouldn't stop ringing! I tried adding a diode to the button outside, but that made the transformer buzz continuously while the chime didn't ring at all. I even bought another chime, thinking the first was faulty, but the same ringing issue happened again. I've tried connecting the wires in every way I can think of, but nothing seems to work. Can anyone offer advice on how to fix this mess? Please help me out!

Look, I’m no expert on doorbells, but maybe when you left that decoration on, you invited some spirit into your home. They might be stuck in your electrical system, ringing the doorbell nonstop! You might need a seance to help them out—who knows, they might just want to hang out in your guest room instead! 😂

LOL, that’s one way to think about it! But seriously, maybe try the wiring advice first!

First off, double-check that the doorbell button isn't stuck. Give it a few pushes or even try swapping it out with a new one. Sometimes, it's just a simple fix! Good luck!

I made sure it wasn’t stuck and replaced it just in case, but it’s still acting weird. Definitely an odd situation!

It sounds like you might have an issue with the wiring. The doorbell button usually connects to a neutral wire, allowing the circuit to complete. I suggest tracing the wires back—identify which ones are hot (24V to ground) and which are neutral. The hot wires should connect straight to the buzzer, while the neutral goes to the button. The return wire from the button should lead back to the buzzer. That could solve your problem!
