Help! My Drill Bit Got Stuck in My Brother’s Impact Drill!

Asked By CreativePanda42 On

I borrowed my brother's Ryobi impact drill to hang a TV mount, and while trying to drive a screw into a stud, the drill bit got stuck and is now barely protruding from the drill. I can't grip it with pliers since there's not much of it sticking out. Has anyone else faced this issue before? What can I do to get the bit out?

Hey, next time just pull the collar on the impact drill away from the body to release the bit. It’s a bit different than a regular drill!

I had no idea! I’ve only used a basic drill before, so this was a learning experience for me.

If all else fails and you're really worried about the drill, you could always buy him a new one. They’re pretty affordable, typically around $100 for a drill and a couple of batteries, plus I’ve found Ryobi tools to be great for home DIY projects!

I’ve been feeling guilty since it’s my brother's, especially with everything he’s dealing with moving into a new house. I definitely didn’t want to ruin his new drill.

It sounds like the bit might have been too short for the drill. You could try using thin needle nose pliers to pull it out, or if you have a magnet handy, that might do the trick too!

This actually was the issue, and we found some needle nose pliers that worked perfectly to get the bit out. I’m new to using impact drills!
