I recently remodeled my basement, opting for an exposed ceiling that I painted black. It looks great, but I didn't expect how much noise would come through from above. Voices, the TV, everything is super loud and it's really bothering me, especially since I have ADHD and I'm sensitive to background noise. My kids hang out down there with their friends and play video games, which just adds to the chaos. I can't put in a drop ceiling or close it off again, and while I bought some acoustic foam panels, they haven't done much. So, what are my other options for reducing this noise?

Honestly, there's no cheap way around soundproofing. You might have to think about insulating the ceiling more seriously, maybe even consider removal and replacement of the floor above if that’s an option—the sound can really travel through floors!
