I recently noticed that my AC is making a loud noise when I turn it on, so I shut it off right away. Upon inspection, the squirrel cage looks slightly off balance, and the motor mount in the middle moves a bit too much for my comfort. While running it now, there's not much visible shaking, and the noise is less intense, but I'm still concerned. Is it safe to keep using it until the maintenance guy arrives in two days, or should I worry about the potential for overheating? It's getting pretty humid in here! Also, I think I might need a new motor, but I can't see the model without removing the unit.

It sounds like the bearings might be worn out. It should be fine to run temporarily, but I’d recommend only using it while you’re around to turn it off if things get worse. Ideally, limit its use to when you're at home. If you can avoid running it all day while you're out, that would help preserve whatever life is left—no sense wasting it while you're out grocery shopping!
Getting it out can be a pain. Have you tried adjusting the access rails? Might make it easier to pop it out!

Thanks for the tip! I'm actually going to pull the unit out to check for the motor number since they’re usually inexpensive.
